Valentines Day gets the gas face.

Creativity and the element of surprise has reached its all time low.

As all the relationship stricken people ponder their whereabouts on this coming Valentines Day, Hallmark quietly waits patiently for their second most favorite day of the year to come (first is, of course Christmas).

This lovefested day alienates the celibate and degrades the companionless. In addition, it has eliminated the surprise element of gift giving! Instead of pleasantly surprising someone you care about, people now EXPECT some sort of gift to be given to them on this damn day. Giving someone a gift should not be associated to societal ties for christs sake! Especially on some day with no real history of origin remotely related to what it is now whatsoever!

Surprisingly, the Roman Catholic Church in 1969, cancelled this holiday because they realized that it was no longer dedicated to LOVE but actually regressed to a day of consumerism--an orgy of consumerism you could say. So really, there is no such day.

Anyways, myth has it that on this day of love:

"...the merry revels began with the sacrifice of a dog and several goats. Once death had appeased the gods, the priests of the ceremony cut strips of skin from the goats which they passed around to the young men gathered in attendance. These handsome lads, naked until the sacrifices were completed, covered themselves with pieces of fresh goat skin while also taking strips of skin in hand. They dipped the skins in the fragrant, fresh goat blood, then ran around the walls of the city, sprinkling blood at the fields to increase their fertility....and they could not resist teasing the young women with a sprinkle or two from the bloody skin, the intent being to ward off sterility. The young married women of Rome were eager to receive this love-filled sprinkling of blood."

Man, Valentines Day would be my second favorite holiday if we could revert back to mythical days...

Until then, ill just complain...its what i do best.
